Teaching Philosophy I believe it is important to treat each student as the unique individual they are. Everyone's swing is different, as well as everyone's specific goals for their own game, with one exception, we all want to get better! I feel it is important to focus on some basic fundamentals that need to be in place in order to see improvement. From there, I like to help the student understand what is happening in his/her own swing and what causes the golf ball to do what it is doing. Once they understand this process, we can make great strides in improving their golf game. Here are some basic rules I like to follow when teaching the game of golf:
- Talk to the student. Find out his/her goals for the game of golf.
- Determine the student's skill level and capabilities.
- Find out the amount of time the student is willing to invest in his/her golf game.
- Be extremely patient.
- Avoid over-teaching.
- Point out the student's positive aspects.
- Praise the student when he/she has accomplished a particular task.
- Encourage the student when he/she has not yet accomplished a particular task.
- Communicate with the student in the way he/she better understands: visually, verbally, or kinesthetically.
- Make sure the student leaves the lesson feeling good about himself/herself and what they have accomplished. Give them one or two things to keep in mind as they continue to play and practice.
